France Upholds Fracking Ban

The Constitutional Council of France, the country’s highest court, recently ruled to uphold a ban on hydraulic fracking proposed by the French Parliament.  The New York Times reported the French government’s concerns over the environmental impact of the fracking practice, and noted a particular worry over its impact on local water supply.  Other European nations share this concern, as Great Britain has limited fracking practices in its own borders, while Bulgaria has banned the practice altogether.  To learn more about this instrumental court decision, and why Europe is growing concerned over fracking, click here.
