We are thrilled to welcome Matt Burgess to the EcoTheo team! Matt is the critically acclaimed author of the novels Dogfight, A Love Story and Uncle Janice, and will be serving as our Fiction Editor. On the impact of place, he writes: “I grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, surrounded by asphalt parks and concrete stoops. Years later, living now in the Midwest, I’ve started taking walks in the woods, delighted by things that feel entirely alien to me, lake loons and cobwebs and mysterious smells I can’t identify yet. I barely recognize myself on these walks! And that’s pretty much what I’m looking for from stories, written or oral: that feeling that my heart is expanding, for reasons I can’t quite identify.”
