Guns to plowshares

I saw this post via Shane Claiborne’s Facebook page and it adds new meaning to beating swords into plowshares:

This weekend we took a handgun off the streets of Philly and beat it into a hand trowel for the garden… The moment that left us all breathless was watching the mothers of murder victims hammer on the barrel of the handgun. As she pounded on the red-hot metal with tears rolling down her face, one of the mothers cried out: “This is for my son.”

Think of that image! You’re in the garden working with tools that may have taken life, to work soil which used to be alive, in order to coax life up out of the ground.

What an image of resurrection!
