Autumn Has Arrived
Last night, at 10:29 PM Eastern Daylight Time, fall arrived. Or perhaps you know it as Autumn. The Autumnal Equinox is that magical day when day and night are equal (after all, equinox is literally “equal night”).
But wait!
Everything You Learned Is Wrong
Okay, maybe not everything. But here are the astronomical facts: the equinox is not so equal. On the equinox, the center of the sun passes each horizon (East and West) 12 hours apart. But that means the sun is actually up for longer than 12 hours.
And we all know that 12 + Something Greater Than 12 cannot equal 24.
There’s actually more light than dark on the equinox. Go figure.
But what does it matter?
Well, maybe not all that much to you. fall can mean the begining of football, or that first leaf that drops, or hot chocolate on the porch instead of lemonade.
