Yesterday, the New York Times ran the blog “Keystone Pipeline Opponents Plan Widespread Civil Disobedience.” You can read about it here. The article states, “As of Monday, nearly 76,000 people have pledged to engage in ‘dignified, peaceful civil disobedience that could result in my arrest in order to send the message to President Obama and his administration that they must reject the Keystone XL pipeline.'”
I don’t know the answer, but it poses an interesting question: Are we now at a point where civil (peaceful) disobedience is essential to the environmental movement? Should the Church join in? What do you think?
