Evangelicals host a Global Day of Prayer for Climate Action on April 5 – You’re Invited

The Lausanne Movement, sparked by evangelist Billy Graham in 1974, seeks to represent “the whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world.” In November 2012, the United States-based movement Young Evangelicals for Climate Action (Y.E.C.A.) became an institutional signatory to the Lausanne Global Consultation on Creation Care and the Gospel: Call to Action.
Rising up to Lausanne’s Call to Action and inspired by the original @ClimatePrayer, Y.E.C.A. launched @ClimatePrayerUS in February 2014, and hosted a U.S. National Day of Prayer on April 3rd of the same year. University campuses, churches, and communities across the United States were united in praying for climate action; searching for ways to faithfully respond to the Biblical call to love God, love our neighbor, and care for creation.
In response to the 2015 international climate negotiations in Paris and ongoing opportunities for bold national leadership on climate change, Y.E.C.A. invited A Rocha International, the Evangelical Environmental Network, Lausanne/WEA Creation Care Network, and @ClimatePrayer to join them as co-sponsors for this year’s Global Day of Prayer for Climate Action on April 5, 2016.
On this day and throughout the corresponding week, individuals and organizations with members all over the world will come together to offer a prayer–either private or corporate–for faithful leadership on climate. We believe that prayer can provide expansive common ground for Christians to approach climate change with seriousness, dedication, and hope.
The Global Day of Prayer for Climate Action has several goals:
- 1. To facilitate a truly global prayer effort for faithful action on climate
- 2. To encourage other Christians who are passionate about climate action
- 3. To raise awareness about the growing Christian movement for climate action
- 4. To move global and national decision-makers toward more faithful action on climate
