I recently read an article written by Andrew Scwartz for the Huffington Post. Schwartz connects issues of environmental degradation to the moral imperative to love one’s neighbor. One of Schwartz’ most poignant insights exists in his mention of geographical marginalization, whereby the victims of negligence toward the environment are often those communities around the globe who lack the political clout to prevent the destruction of the natural world around them. For any person of faith, Schwartz starts a conversation about how our environmental behavior directly impacts our capacity to love our neighbors.
